Two questions will help you choose the right model
The stainless steel product line has a modular design. Depending on the application, the pump size, design, drive, and gear material are combined.
First question: Drive system: If a motor or gearbox is already in place, the pump without a motor—that is, the pump head with a free shaft end—will fit. If a ready-to-connect unit is needed, the motorized pump will fit.
Second question, medium: If the medium provides sufficient lubrication, stainless steel gears will operate. If it provides little or no lubrication—as is the case with water and aqueous solutions—a PEEK version may be considered. PEEK is available in both motorized and non-motorized versions.
When Should You Use a Stainless Steel Gear Pump?
Stainless steel is used when the medium is corrosive or when the material is specified: for solvents, acids, aqueous process media, or emulsions. In such cases, the housing, shafts, and housing components are made of 1.4571 stainless steel.
The materials are uniformly specified. The housings and shafts are made of 1.4571 stainless steel. In the standard version, the gears are also made of 1.4571. If the medium does not provide sufficient lubrication, the stainless steel gears run dry against each other. For such cases, there is a PEEK version, in which the shafts remain made of 1.4571 and the gears are made of PEEK. This applies primarily to water and aqueous media.
Without a motor: Pump head with exposed shaft end (E/F)
The Series E/F is a pump head with an exposed shaft end, without its own motor. It is used when a motor, gearbox, or drive is already in place or is designed separately. Flow rate: 1.15 to 24 l/min; viscosity: 1.4 to 2,500 mm²/s; fluid temperature: -40 to +200 °C; housing, shafts, and gears made of 1.4571 stainless steel.
The E/F version requires a minimum level of lubrication from the medium. If the medium does not provide sufficient lubrication, the E/F-PEEK version is recommended; see the section on PEEK versions below.
With motor: ready-to-use unit (E/FLM)
The Series E/FLM is a fully assembled unit consisting of a pump, motor, coupling, and pump bracket. It is used when a ready-to-operate unit is required. Power output: 0.12 to 1.5 kW; available up to and including size 3; flow rate and viscosity are the same as for the version without a motor.
Available with a variable-frequency drive upon request. This allows the speed—and thus the flow rate—to be adjusted to the process, for example during dosing or circulation in partial-load operation. For media with low lubricity, the motor pump is also available in a PEEK version (E/FLM-PEEK); see the next section.
Additional designs and engine configurations in stainless steel
Other configurations, such as E/D, E/FKM, E/FOM, and E/FAM, are also available and are designed based on the installation situation and the required motorization. In practice, E/F, E/F-PEEK, E/FLM, and E/FLM-PEEK are used almost exclusively; therefore, these four are the focus of this page. There are currently no separate product pages for the other variants.
All stainless steel models can generally also be equipped with PEEK gears, from sizes 314 through 333. A relief valve is not available in stainless steel; in such cases, pressure relief is handled by the system itself.
The E/FOM design can also be equipped with a magnetic coupling if a hermetically sealed design without a dynamic shaft seal is required.
PEEK Variants: E/F-PEEK and E/FLM-PEEK
The choice of gears depends on the lubricating properties of the medium. Oils, heat transfer fluids, and similar media provide sufficient lubrication; in these cases, stainless steel gears are used. Water, aqueous solutions, solvents, and low-viscosity chemicals provide little lubrication; in these cases, PEEK gears are tested.
E/F-PEEK is the motorless version with PEEK gears, with a flow rate of 3 to 24 l/min. E/FLM-PEEK is the motor pump with PEEK gears, with a power rating of 0.12 to 0.75 kW. In both cases, the housing and shafts are made of 1.4571 stainless steel, and the gears are made of PEEK.
Applications
Typical examples include the chemical and process industries, paints and coatings, and mechanical and plant engineering. The system handles solvents, acids, and alkalis; emulsions and cooling lubricants; aqueous process media; as well as oils and heat transfer oils.
The standard product line is not approved for food and hygiene requirements. For such requirements, we work with you to evaluate materials, seals, and surfaces.
