Gear pump with magnetic coupling, FOM-MG design

A gear pump with magnetic coupling operates without a dynamic shaft seal. The torque is transmitted through magnets to a split cup without contact. This makes the pump hermetically sealed to the outside. Technically, FOM-MG is the FOM design with the MG feature, built on the pump base F in grey cast iron.

How the magnetic coupling works

The motor drives an external magnet. Through the split cup it takes the internal magnet and with it the pump shaft. There is no continuous shaft between the drive and the fluid being pumped, so no seal can wear out and become leaky.

Compared to a plain ring seal, the typical point of wear is eliminated. This is crucial everywhere where even small amounts of leakage are critical.

Operation without a shaft seal

The FOM-MG model is based on a gray cast-iron pump. Typical applications include heat transfer oils, odor-intensive or health-hazardous media, and expensive process fluids, where even small amounts of leakage can be disruptive. For aggressive or corrosive media, a corresponding Stainless steel version Tested. In the case of solvents, we always check the material resistance.

Since there is no dynamic seal, this typical wear and maintenance point is eliminated. The seal change on the shaft is eliminated.

Technical data and options

The FOM-MG model covers flow rates from 0.6 to 124 l/min at viscosities from 1.4 to 2,500 mm²/s and motor powers from 0.25 to 18.5 kW. Available with circulating valve in the pump cover or externally. pressure relief valve, optionally with integrated frequency converter for speed-variable feeding, then referred to as FOMi MG.

In stainless steel, the model is available as E/FOM MG, also with housings and shafts made of 1.4571 and, on request, with PEEK gears. The circulating valve in the pump cover is available only in cast iron; the pressure limitation is solved on the side of the pump housing. Special versions with different materials, connections or motors are manufactured on the same basis.

Manufacturers from in-house production

Linn-Pumpen has been developing and manufacturing gear pump units in Schalksmühle since the 1960s. Design, manufacturing, and service are handled in-house; spare parts are available promptly.
